New Delhi: The whole world knows Pakistan as a bankrupt country, and its citizens are also not far behind in begging. Its image is once again under scrutiny due to the organised begging and criminal activities abroad. Pakistanis are now begging in Saudi Arabia. As a result, Saudi Arabia has expelled 24,000 Pakistani citizens from the country this year. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have increased strict surveillance and visa restrictions on Pakistani citizens. Pakistani officials believe that this situation is causing serious damage to the country’s international reputation.

Saudi Arabia And The UAE On Alert

Saudi Arabia has deported nearly 24,000 Pakistani citizens this year on charges of begging. Meanwhile, the UAE has tightened visa rules for most Pakistani citizens. UAE officials say that some Pakistani citizens were involved in criminal activities after arriving in the country. The figures from Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) clearly show the seriousness of this problem. In 2025, more than 66,000 passengers were stopped from travelling at airports. This action was taken to dismantle organized begging gangs and prevent illegal migration.

Which Countries Have Expelled How Many Beggars?

FIA Director General Riffat Mukhtar said that such networks are damaging Pakistan’s image. He said that this problem is not limited to the Gulf countries. The same pattern has emerged in some cases involving travel to Africa and Europe. In addition, cases of misuse of tourist visas have also been caught in countries like Cambodia and Thailand. According to Mukhtar, besides Saudi Arabia, Dubai has also sent back about 6,000 Pakistani citizens this year. Azerbaijan has also deported approximately 2,500 Pakistani beggars. These figures have increased the concerns of the Pakistani government and agencies.

What Difficulties Could Pakistan Face?

This issue also arose with Saudi Arabia last year. In 2024, Saudi Arabia formally asked Pakistan to prevent the use of Umrah visas for begging. The Saudi Ministry of Religious Affairs warned that if this practice did not stop, Pakistani Umrah and Hajj pilgrims could face serious consequences. Legal experts in Pakistan have also openly expressed their concerns.
