TVK’s Vijay issues first statement after Karur stampede, says ‘My heart is shattered’

After the devastating stampede at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s rally, the actor-turned-politician has issued his first statement. The rally was held at Karur, where 36 people lost their lives in a horrific stampede. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Vijay said his heart was “shattered” and that he was feeling “unbearable and indescribable pain” as so many people lost their lives.

In his statement Vijay wrote, “My heart is shattered; I am writhing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that words cannot express. I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of my dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital.”

The death toll in the fatal accident has reached 36, including women and children. People also fainted at the rally, which was packed beyond capacity. It eventually spiraled out of control, forcing the actor-turned-politician to briefly halt his speech.

Following the incident, Vijay was spotted at the Trichy airport, leaving the accident site. The devastating accident has raised eyebrows, with many questioning why Vijay might have left fans during such a massive tragedy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief on the matter. Taking to X, he wrote, “The unfortunate incident during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. Wishing strength to them in this difficult time. Praying for a swift recovery to all those injured.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin described the incident as “heart-wrenching” and stated that he had directed ministers, senior officials, and medical teams to rush to Karur to coordinate relief efforts.
