Mumbai: Mehli Mistry, a first cousin of the late Cyrus Mistry, was a close associate of late billionaire Ratan Tata. During the controversy surrounding Cyrus Mistry’s removal from the chairmanship of Tata Sons, Mehli openly supported Ratan Tata. In October 2022, Mehli was included on the trustee boards of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust where these two trusts together hold a majority stake in Tata Sons. Who is Mehli Mistry?
As of now, Mehli Mistry is a key trustee of Tata Trusts and a member of the Executive Committee, which oversees the general functioning and policies of the trusts. Moreover, his name is also being considered for the next leadership position of the Trusts.
Mehali is also a director of the Meherji Pallonji Group in the business world. The Meherji Pallonji group operates in sectors such as logistics, dredging, industrial painting, shipping, and financial services.
Following Ratan Tata’s death, Mehali Mistry has also been named executor of his will, along with Darius Khambatta and Ratan’s half-sisters, Shirin and Deana Jejeebhoy, a role which has further cemented his stable position and credibility within the Trusts.
Why Tata group leaders meet Home Minister Amit Shah, FM Nirmala Sitharaman?
As per a report by PTI news agency, top leaders of the Tata group, including Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata and Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman amid infighting among trustees over board appointments and governance issues.
Noel Tata and Chandrasekaran, along with Tata Trusts Vice Chairman Venu Srinivasan and trustee Darius Khambata, arrived together in the evening at Shah’s residence for the meeting. FM Sitharaman also joined in at the home minister’s residence.
