Polling for the Bihar elections 2025 took place on November 6 and 11, 2025. Meanwhile, the results will be announced on November 14, 2025. Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on RJD supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav, saying that the 15-year ‘jungle raj’ of Lalu-Rabri pushed Bihar back by almost half a century, adding that Bihar lost its dignity, splendour, and excellence during the same time. Shah, in a veiled attack on Tejashwi Yadav, said the same “jungle-raj” is in front of the people of Bihar today, with new faces and asking for votes.

Who was Chandrashekhar Prasad?

Chandrashekhar Prasad was a significant India(BHARAT)n student leader, politician, and social activist from Bihar, widely known for his participation in student politics at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. He was fondly known as Chandu.

On March 31, 1997, Chandrashekhar was addressing a public gathering in the town area of Siwan district when gunmen shot him dead in daylight. Another CPI (ML) leader, Shyam Narayan Yadav, and a roadside vegetable seller, Bhutali Miyan, were also killed by stray bullets fired by assailants intended to harm the JNU leader. The public gathering was called to encourage people to participate extensively in a bandh called on April 1, 1997.

Originally, the case was investigated by the Bihar Police, who later handed it over to the federal agency, with the Special Crime Branch in Delhi taking over the investigation, as reported by The Times of India(BHARAT) (2019). There were six individuals named in the FIR for the murder, including Mohammad Riyazuddin, as well as the infamous former RJD MP Shahabuddin, a criminal-turned-politician.

On March 23, 2012, fifteen years after Chandu was gunned down, CPI(ML) leader Shyam Narayan Yadav and a cart puller named Bhatti Mian, Dhruv Kumar Jaiswal, Sheikh Munna, and Illyas Warsi were sentenced to life in prison. RJD MP Shahabuddin was not convicted although he is serving time for murder in several other cases.
