‘You don’t know me yet, but…’: Killer to Aligarh Muslim University teacher before shooting him in head on campus during evening walk

A school teacher was shot dead on Wednesday night at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus in Uttar Pradesh. The victim, Danish Rao, taught computer science at ABK High School on the campus and had been working there for the past 11 years. He was taking a walk with two colleagues when the attack happened. According to the police, two men on a scooter stopped them around 8:50 pm and threatened them with guns. One of the attackers reportedly said to Rao, “You don’t know me yet, now you will,” before opening fire. Rao was shot at least three times, including two bullets to the head.

Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon confirmed that both attackers fired at Rao. He was quickly taken to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The shooting happened near the university’s central library. AMU Proctor Mohd Wasim Ali said the university received information about the shooting around 9 pm and later learned that the injured person was a teacher.

Police have formed six special teams and are checking CCTV footage from the area to identify and catch the attackers, who fled the scene after the crime.

Attack happened during evening walk, police investigation on

According to reports, Rao Danish Ali was out on his usual evening walk with two colleagues when the attack took place. As they reached the canteen near the Maulana Azad Library, two men on a motorcycle arrived and opened fire. The attackers escaped immediately after the shooting.

Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon said the shooting was carried out by two unidentified men. He added that a full investigation is under way, and police teams are checking CCTV cameras in the area to trace the attackers.

The murder has caused shock, especially as it happened just hours after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke in the state Assembly about better law and order in the state.

The Chief Minister said that a safe environment is important for everyone and claimed that improved security was the reason why investment was coming to Uttar Pradesh.
