ZEE Exclusive: ‘Pakistan has never apologised for 1971, Muhammad Yunus erasing history of Bangladesh’, Hasina launches attack against Yunus government

Dhaka: In a significant attack against the ruling interim government of Bangladesh led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, former Bangladesh Prime Minister has accused the Yunus government of “courting Islamabad” and “trying to erase Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s name from history”. The former PM has also claimed that millions of ordinary people will be disenfranchise ahead of the elections in the country. Here are all the details you need to know about what the former Bangladesh PM has said about the Yunus government.

What Sheikh Hasina said on Muhammd Yunus?

In an exclusive conversation with WION’s Sidhant Sibal, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has claimed the once-booming economy is now “in freefall”. The former PM has also also mentioned that  journalists are being silenced and minorities live in fear under Yunus’s rule.

What Sheikh Hasina said on Awami League?

“My priority remains the welfare and stability of Bangladesh. The Awami League is woven into Bangladesh’s history and continues to enjoy the support of tens of millions of ordinary people. These planned elections cannot be free, fair or inclusive if the ban on the Awami League’s participation continues. Millions of ordinary people will be disenfranchised. That would be a tragedy for Bangladesh because the country badly needs a government ruling with the genuine consent of the people”, Sheikh Hasina has said to WION about the current situation in Bangladesh.

Hasina on why ‘Pakistan has never apologised for 1971’

The former Bangladesh PM  has also mentioned that Pakistan has never apologised for 1971, yet Yunus seeks closer ties with Islamabad while attempting to sideline Sheikh Mujib’s legacy from our history. The key point, however, is this: Yunus holds no democratic mandate to reshape Bangladesh’s foreign policy. The former PM also mentioned that Yunus was never elected to take strategic decisions that could shape the nation’s course for generations.
