New Delhi: At least 15 workers were killed in an explosion at a factory in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Friday, 21 November 2025. The blast occurred in the Malikpur area of Faisalabad. Local authorities reported receiving information about the explosion on Friday morning. The blast was so powerful that it destroyed not only the factory shed and building but also several nearby houses.

Explosion caused by gas leak

Dawn reports that after an initial investigation, the rescue service determined the cause of the explosion was a gas leak. A statement from the office of Faisalabad Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar stated that there were four factories nearby. The factory did not have a boiler. A gas leak caused a fire in one factory and spread to engulf the other factories, exacerbating the situation.

10 people hospitalised

The Faisalabad Commissioner said that seven houses in the area were also affected by the blast. The blast caused the roofs of several houses to collapse. By Friday afternoon, 15 bodies had been recovered from the debris. Ten of the injured were taken to Allied Hospital. Three were discharged after first aid. The remaining injured are undergoing treatment.

The Commissioner’s statement stated that the rescue operation at the site had been completed. The situation is currently being monitored. Trade unions enraged

National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) Secretary General Nasir Mansoor stated after the incident that factories have become death traps for workers. Industrialists are distributing death certificates. He said that the Punjab government is directly responsible for the workers’ deaths. Safe working conditions should be given priority, and compensation of Rs 30 lakh should be given to the families of the workers killed in the incident.
