New Delhi: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval shared his views on major uprisings over the past 3.5 years that led to the change of governments in neighbouring countries – Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Highlighting the core reason, he stated that “poor governance” is the reason why regime changes happened in neighbouring countries. While talking about governance on National Unity Day, Doval stated that strong governance plays a crucial role in the “nation-building process” and in securing the nation-state.
What Did Ajit Doval Say?
The National Security Advisor stated that rise and fall of the great empires is actually a history of their governance.
“The rise and fall of the great empires, monarchies, oligarchies, aristocracies or democracies is actually a history of their governance. In the recent cases of regime change through non-constitutional methods in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and others, these were actually cases of poor governance,” Doval said.

Doval Commented After Hasina’s Appeal
Doval’s comment comes after former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina appealed to her Awami League supporters to boycott the election, which will be held in February 2026.
Notably, Bangladesh is currently being run by an interim government, which is led by Mohammed Yunus.

“I believe governance plays a seminal role in the nation-building process, as well as in securing a nation and helping it achieve its goals and aspirations,” said Doval.
