Princess Diana passed away on August 31, 1997. A show that chronicles her life and journey called The Crown is streaming on Netflix and has reached its season six, and opened to mixed reviews. However, the one thing that has been discussed for years before the show dropped was Princess’ last call to her sons Prince Harry and William.

What happened during that final phone call?

The princess was holidaying in Paris and was supposed to come back home to London on August 31, and the conversation happened about a mother coming back home to her children. The princess at that time had the company of the hotshot Egyptian filmmaker Dodi Al Fayed and the sons asked their mother if she would marry him and the reply was a no.

What did the children say about the final call?

“Harry and I were in a desperate rush to say goodbye, you know ‘see you later.’ If I’d known now what was going to happen, I wouldn’t have been so blasé about it,” Prince William said in her documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life And Legacy.

Prince Harry said, “Looking back on it now, it’s incredibly hard. I’ll have to sort of deal with that for the rest of my life. Not knowing that was the last time I was going to speak to my mum. How differently that conversation could have panned out if I’d had even the slightest inkling her life was going to be taken that night.”
