In a tragic incident, at least ten devotees lost their lives and several others sustained injured in a stampede at the Venkateswara Swamy temple in Kasibugga in Srikakulam district on Saturday. The mishap took place at the Venkateswara Swamy temple in Kasibugga during a large gathering on the occasion of Ekadashi.

Reacting to the incident, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, in a post on X, said,  “The stampede at Kasibugga Venkateswara temple in Srikakulam district anguished me. It is very sad that devotees have died in this unfortunate incident. I convey my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.”

According to the Chief Minister’s Office of Andhra Pradesh (CMO), the incident occurred as a large crowd gathered at the temple on the occasion of Ekadashi. The heavy rush of devotees led to overcrowding, resulting in a sudden stampede.

Meanwhile, the police rushed to the site. “Police rushed to the spot. State Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu rushed to the accident site immediately. Additional police forces have been deployed to the spot,” reads the statement from the Andhra Pradesh chief minister’s office.

Furthermore, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh condoled the loss of lives in a stampede at Venkateswara Temple and said that he has instructed officials to provide immediate assistance to the victims. Sharing a post on X, Nara Lokesh wrote, “The stampede at the Kasibugga Venkateswara Temple has caused the deaths of several devotees, plunging us into profound shock. A deep sorrow has gripped us on this Ekadashi day. I extend my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. The government is providing better medical treatment to those injured in the stampede. As soon as the information was received, I spoke with the officials, Minister Achchennaidu from the district, and local MLA Gauthu Shirish. I have instructed that immediate assistance be provided to the affected individuals.”
