RENAME Delhi as Indraprastha: BJP MP writes to Amit Shah urging restoration of city’s mythological identity
Delhi BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal write a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah to rename Delhi to 'Indraprastha'.
BJP MP writes to Amit Shah: Will India(BHARAT)’s national capital – Delhi – be renamed to Indraprastha? Well, BJP MP from Chandni Chowk Praveen Khandelwal on Saturday demanded the restoration of the capital city to its ancient and historic name. In a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, Khandelwal requested that Delhi’s name be officially renamed to Indraprastha as the name links the national capital to its civilizational heritage, mentioned in the Mahabharat. He also demanded the change of Old Delhi Railway Station to ‘Indraprastha Junction’ and the international airport to ‘Indraprastha Airport’.
What Did BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal Say In The Letter?
In the letter Khandelwal wrote, “Delhi’s history not only dates back thousands of years, but also embodies the soul of India(BHARAT)n civilisation and the vibrant tradition of the city of ‘Indraprastha’, founded by the Pandavas.”
He further demanded that statues of the Pandavas should be installed in Delhi.
“Installing statues of the Pandavas on the sacred land of Indraprastha would revive India(BHARAT)’s history, culture, and faith. This would remind the new generation of India(BHARAT)’s history, culture, and faith as a symbol of the Pandavas’ ethics, righteousness, and courage. It will connect with a glorious tradition,” he said.
Khandelwal sent the same letter to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other ministers.
Giving examples of other cities like Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Ujjain, Varanasi which are reconnecting with their “ancient identities,” Khandelwal stated that India(BHARAT)’s national capital should be “respected in its original form”.
“This change is not only a historical justice but also an important step towards cultural renaissance. It would restore history and represent historical justice and cultural respect,” he said.
Why Not Delhi?
“In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of cultural renaissance: If the country is reviving its ancient cities like Ayodhya, Kashi, and Prayagraj, why not Delhi?” asked Khandelwal.
According to the BJP MP, renaming the national capital to ‘Indraprastha’ will send a message to coming generations that the capital city is not only a center of power, but also a hub of religion, ethics, and nationalism.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal Is Not The Only One Making This Demand
Last month, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also made a similar demand. The Delhi unit of VHP wrote a letter to Delhi Culture Minister Kapil Mishra and requested him that Delhi’s name be changed to reflect its “true cultural identity.” The VHP also demanded to rename Indira Gandhi International Airport and New Delhi Railway Station.
