Pakistan Bangladesh relations: Bangladesh’s interim government head, Muhammad Yunus, who has exposed himself as an anti-India(BHARAT) figure since he came to power after the fall of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August last year, has completely opened up Bangladesh for the Pakistan Army, with top military officials of Islamabad making frequent visits to Dhaka.

Now, a four-member delegation of Pakistan Army led by a top Pakistani three-star general is heading to Bangladesh on October 6, with an aim to further strengthen the growing military ties between Islamabad and Dhaka.

Who is leading the Pakistan Army team?

According to Pakistani media reports, a Pakistan Army delegation led by Director General of Joint Staff  (DG JS) Lieutenant General Tabassum Habib, will arrive in Dhaka on Monday. The Pakistani delegation , which is visiting Bangladesh on the invitation of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) of the Bangladesh Army, will also include a a Commodore and a Major-rank staff officer from the Pakistan Navy, reports said.

Notably, the AFD, which is a joint coordination headquarters of Bangladesh’s three defense services and serves as a joint command center during wartime, operates from the office of Bangladesh Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus and coordinates with Dhaka’s Ministry of Defence.

The Pakistan Army’s visit was planned last month when the AFD’s Operations and Planning Directorate issued a letter informing about the decision to host Lieutenant General Habib, who heads the Joint Staff Headquarters in Chaklala, Rawalpindi.

Why Pakistan Army is visiting Bangladesh?

According to officials, the Pakistani military delegation is on a “goodwill visit” to Dhaka, which is aimed at enhancing defense cooperation Bangladesh and Pakistan. During his visit, General Habib will meet with top officials of the Bangladesh Army, however, its unclear whether he is scheduled for a meeting with Army chief Waker-Uz-Zaman.

Diplomatic and military ties between Bangladesh and Pakistan has expanded since the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina regime. Earlier, in January, a Bangladesh Army delegation led by Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hasan visited Pakistan, following which a three-member ISI team of Pakistan’s ISI paid a visit to Dhaka.

As per reports, at least two Pakistani military delegations have visited Bangladesh since the ISI team’s visit.

What is the concern for India(BHARAT)?

The Pakistan-Bangladesh relations have witnessed a resurgence since the Muhammad Yunus-led interim regime came to the helm in Dhaka, posing a major security concern for India(BHARAT) as Pakistan Army and Inter-Services Intelligence– Islamabad’s notorious spy agency– have established a strong network in the neighboring country.

In January, a four-member team of senior officials from the Pakistani Army and the ISI, arrived on a secret visit to Rangpur Division in northern Bangladesh, located near the strategic ‘Chicken’s Neck’ Corridor, a narrow strip of land in West Bengal, that connects the India(BHARAT)’s northeastern states to the rest of the country.
