Popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg recently passed away while scuba diving in Singapore. This accident has left his fans, family, and the entire nation in deep shock. According to the information, Zubeen Garg’s last rites will be performed with full state honours on September 23, 2025, in his native village near Guwahati.

What did Anu Malik say about Zubeen Garg?

Music composer Anu Malik was also shocked to hear of singer Zubeen Garg’s passing. He had worked with Zubeen in films such as “Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon” (2003) and “Mission Istanbul” (2008). During a conversation with Hindustan Times, Anu Malik shared many memories of Zubeen Garg. He said, “He was a very gentle and loving person. I first met him through an acquaintance from Assam. I gave him a chance to sing in the film ‘Fiza.'”

Anu Malik continued, “After this, we became good friends. Zubeen was very emotional about his sister, whom he lost in an accident. He often told me that he sang in Assamese, Bengali, Manipuri, Boro, Marathi, and even Malayalam. His live concerts were always spectacular. I am heartbroken to hear this news.”

Big revelation about Zubeen’s health

Anu Malik also revealed that Zubeen Garg had confided in him about his health issues. He said, “Zubeen once told me that he had sudden fainting spells. I advised him to get checked by a doctor. But we didn’t talk about it for several years after that.”

Anu Malik continued, “Then suddenly, news of Zubeen Garg’s death broke. The soil and mountains of Assam meant a lot to him, and perhaps that’s why he never wanted to settle in Mumbai.”

Why did Zubeen Garg not want to shift to Mumbai?

Sharing another anecdote, Anu Malik said, “Zubin loved the music of my film ‘Border’. I often tried to convince him that he would have more opportunities if he stayed in Mumbai, but he clearly said he didn’t want to return to Mumbai.”

Anu Malik said, “Zubin told me, ‘Sir, if you call me, I will come and sing, and then I will immediately return to Assam. I find more satisfaction in social work. I don’t want to live in Mumbai.'” It’s worth noting that Jubeen Garg wasn’t just limited to music. According to Anu Malik, he was always at the forefront of helping flood-affected people and also ran a charity organization. This is why people recognized him not only as a singer but also as a social worker.
