Apple’s iOS 27 set to deliver major AI upgrades and performance boosts by 2026: Report
Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 update is set to bring major AI upgrades, significant performance improvements, and deeper system optimisations as the company shifts focus toward stability, smarter features, and next-gen hardware readiness.
iOS 27 will be huge, according to Apple’s plans. The next update to iPhones will apparently focus on optimization and artificial intelligence, rather than flashy upgrades, Gadgets360, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, reported on Wednesday.
A stable performance and a second generation of AI services are now being developed, the source claims, and Apple engineers are diligently weeding through the operating system to remove bloatware, fix bugs and meaningfully improve performance. Reportedly, “tidying up is one of the largest themes for iOS 27.”
iOS 27 will focus on reducing bloat
iOS 27, the report states, will correct long-standing issues with iOS 26, including overheating, battery consumption, UI inconsistencies, connectivity issues, app stability, and other software malfunctions. Apple is said to be streamlining code and optimizing performance in the hopes of providing users with a faster and more fluid iPhone.
The move will also “make it easier to adapt to new hardware in the future,” and could be an indication that a rumored foldable iPhone is already on the way, Gadgets360 said.
iOS 27 may also power a health-oriented AI model
The tidying up is aimed at enhancing performance and stability, but is only half of the iOS 27 picture. Apple’s attention is also said to be on the operating system’s new AI capabilities.
The company is working on a health-related AI model, which, like Bard, may be a part of a subscription-based service. According to rumors, Apple is making moves to dethrone other AI-first applications like ChatGPT and Perplexity.
Gurman’s findings come from Apple’s internal AI chatbot dubbed Veritas, which is “training and testing employees.” The Veritas project will “underpin the next-generation Siri, and iOS 27 may be the first public indication that work is progressing.”
iOS 27 should be ready by fall 2026
The report predicts that Apple will begin to display iOS 27 in June 2026, at WWDC 2026, and will subsequently release a developer beta version. The public version will most likely be ready by September 2026.
Gurman anticipates that this year’s fall will also see the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro, and if a foldable iPhone is available, iOS 27 will be on it, too. The updated operating system could also coincide with Apple’s push into new AI-powered subscription services.
