New Delhi: At least seven people, including foreign mountaineers, were killed and four others injured on Monday, 03 November 2025, after an avalanche swept through a camp on Mount Yalung Ri peak, according to media reports.

Nationalities of the deceased

The Kathmandu Post newspaper reported that among the deceased are three American citizens, one Canadian, one Italian, and two Nepali nationals, as informed by District Police Office Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyan Kumar Mahato.

Four others are missing.

Avalanche swept through the base camp

The avalanche swept through the base camp of the 4,900 meters (16,070 feet) tall peak, The Kathmandu Post newspaper reported. The peak is located in the Rolwaling Valley of Bagmati province’s Dolakha district. Those killed were part of a group of 12 trekkers and local guides that set out over an hour before the avalanche hit, the district police chief told the BBC.

According to reports, the weather has been deteriorating since last week in Nepal, with snowstorms reported on the mountains.

Rescue efforts

Shailendra Thapa, the spokesperson of the Armed Police Force, said five other people were hurt at the base camp, located at 4,900 meters (16,070 feet). Thapa said that rescuers were reaching the site on foot, and a rescue helicopter attempted to reach the site, but bad weather forced it to turn back. It will try again on Tuesday, November 4, at dawn.

Five Nepali guides who returned to the base camp were injured but not critically. Rescue efforts are continuing.
