New Delhi: Politics and diplomacy are viewed through the stern and demanding prism, and for the right reasons. But sometimes, very unique, unforgettable moments occur in these two fields that break the barriers of the protocol, which is otherwise inseparable. These incidents are amusing as well as stress busters.
Xi Jinping and Lee Jae Myong meeting
One such incident occurred when Chinese President Xi Jinping and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met on Saturday, November 1, in Gyeongju, South Korea. During the meeting, Xi Jinping gifted Lee and his wife two Xiaomi mobile phones.
While accepting the gift, President Myung asks the security staff in Korean, “Check if there is communication security?” Immediately, the translator tells Xi in Chinese what President Lee had asked his staff to check. To this, Xi reacts with loud laughter and replies, “Very good! Let’s see if there is a back door. This is a WeChat phone.”
