Babri Masjid foundation stone laid amid heavy security; Expelled MLA Humayun Kabir says 80 crore…

New Delhi: The foundation stone for a Babri Masjid was laid on Saturday, 06 December 2025, in Beldanga, Murshidabad district of West Bengal. Suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir organized the ceremony, which saw the participation of thousands of Kabir’s supporters.
The event was held on the 33rd anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1992. The incident has created a tense communal situation throughout the state, prompting the administration to deploy heavy security forces.
Crowds travel hundreds of kilometres to attend
The ceremony began around 12 PM after a recitation of the Quran, with thousands of people in attendance. People travelled hundreds of kilometres to attend the foundation-laying ceremony for the mosque.
TMC expels Humayun Kabir from the party
The organiser of the event, Humayun Kabir, claimed that it would be an “exact replica” of the Babri Masjid on a smaller scale. He said, “This is our religious right, and we will maintain peace.” However, the TMC has suspended Kabir from the party and distanced itself from the event.
‘Received Rs 80 Crore in Aid’
Addressing the crowd at the foundation-laying ceremony, Humayun Kabir said, “People from Malda, Murshidabad, and South 24 Parganas will contribute to the construction of the Babri Masjid. I have 25 bighas of land for building the mosque, but the local administration is stopping us. We will not need government funds. I will not name the person who has agreed to give us Rs 80 crore for building the mosque. I will not take a single rupee from the government. Otherwise, the sanctity of the mosque will not remain intact.”
Support from West Bengal Police: Kabir
The suspended TMC MLA said that he is receiving support from the West Bengal Police. My security is being ensured. I thank them for this. I wholeheartedly salute and congratulate the entire Muslim community.
After this, Humayun Kabir said from the stage, “In 2024, I had announced that I would soon inaugurate the Babri Masjid in Beldanga, Murshidabad. Today, on December 6, we have come here to lay the foundation stone of the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad.”
