‘Babri Masjid was a heritage site that…’: Pakistan issues contentious statement
Andrabi said that we appeal to the UN and the global community to understand the importance of protecting the religious heritage of Muslims.
New Delhi: Pakistan has once again issued a statement on the demolition of the Babri Masjid. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said that the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992, was a tragic event. Heritage sites like the Babri Masjid should have been protected, which was not done by the government and police at that time. This is not the first time Pakistan has issued a statement on the demolition of the Babri Masjid. Pakistan has been issuing such statements every year on December 6.
‘Babri Masjid was also a heritage site’
Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi was questioned on Friday, 05 December 2025, evening about the 33rd anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid. He said that Pakistan considers the protection of religious heritage and holy places to be a shared responsibility of the international community. The Babri Masjid was also a heritage site.
Tahir further added, “All actions that weaken the religious sites or historical heritage of Muslims should be resolved keeping in mind transparency and justice. Pakistan believes that desecrating any religious place is a violation of the principle of religious equality.” This weakens the feeling of mutual respect between the two communities.”
Appeal to the UN
Tahir Andrabi has also involved the United Nations in this matter. He said that we appeal to the UN and the global community to understand the importance of protecting the religious heritage of Muslims. They should help ensure that incidents like the demolition of the Babri Masjid do not happen again.
Tahir Andrabi also reacted to China claiming Arunachal Pradesh as its territory. The spokesperson for the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Pakistan has consistently supported China on matters related to its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We reiterate this support.
