Russia-Ukraine war: In a major development in the Russia-Ukraine war, that could have significant implications on a potential peace deal between Moscow and Kyiv, US President Doland Trump has approved an intelligence-sharing agreement between Ukraine and Washington, under which the US will provide targeting data to aid in launching missile strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure.

Will Trump send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine?

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Trump has approved sharing targeting data with Ukrainians, which allows Pentagon and US intel agencies to help Kyiv target oil refineries, pipelines and other infrastructure that provide the Kremlin with revenues and resources needed to sustain the Russia-Ukraine war.

The US has asked its NATO allies to provide similar intel support to Ukraine, which would allow Kyiv to target key energy infrastructure, it said.

Additionally, the Trump administration is also mulling to send powerful weapons to Ukraine, Tomahawk cruise missiles and Barracuda munitions, though a decision on their delivery to Kyiv has not yet been made, according to the WSJ report.

During last week’s closed-door meeting at the White House, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had asked Doland Trump to sell Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv, New York Post reported, citing sources, adding that the US commander in chief appeared amenable to Zelenskyy’s request.

What is Russia’s response?

Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the issue of possible US Tomahawk cruise missiles for Ukraine is not yet final and Kremlin is confident that US missile will not the military situation in the region.

Meanwhile, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said on October 1 that Moscow will find a response if the United States decides to supply the Kiev government with Tomahawk cruise missiles, TASS reported

Tomahawk missiles have a range of up to 1,500 miles, putting even Moscow easily within Ukraine’s reach.

Trump shifts tone on Russia, Putin

The developments come amid Trump’s shifting stance on the Russia-Ukraine war, and his recent sharp tone against Moscow and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Last week, the US President claimed Russia was a “paper tiger”, asserting that US intel shows how Kremlin is spiraling toward economic ruin and battlefield defeat as a result of its war in Ukraine.

In a first, Trump expressed his belief that the Ukrainian military could “win all of Ukraine back in its original form,”
