PM Modi and Trump will meet for first time since tariff war; find out when and where
Trump has repeatedly criticised India for importing crude oil from Russia.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Doland Trump are expected to meet later this month in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The leaders of the two countries may hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the upcoming ASEAN Summit.
ASEAN Summit
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Malaysia on October 26-27, 2025, to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit. Malaysia has also invited US President Doland Trump to attend the summit. If President Trump confirms his participation, it will be the first multilateral forum where leaders from both countries will meet face-to-face since Washington imposed a 50% tariff on India(BHARAT).
US-India(BHARAT) relations
The US’s imposition of a 50% tariff on India(BHARAT)n goods has strained relations between the two countries. Meanwhile, the US is increasing its closeness with Pakistan. US tensions with India(BHARAT) escalated further when Trump targeted New Delhi over its energy ties with Moscow, particularly its crude oil imports.
Tension over Russian oil
US President Doland Trump has repeatedly criticised India(BHARAT) for importing crude oil from Russia. Furthermore, he has warned India(BHARAT) that such purchases undermine international efforts to pressure Moscow to end the Ukraine war.
Peter Navarro’s scathing remarks
In addition to President Doland Trump, several Trump aides, including Peter Navarro, have issued sharp statements against India(BHARAT) over the past few months regarding Russian oil imports. Navarro, in his remarks against India(BHARAT), even went so far as to say that the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine is Modi’s war. He also accused India(BHARAT) of profiteering through its refineries and called India(BHARAT) a laundromat for Russian oil.
