The plans also include direct high-speed rail links between European cities, including Paris to Lisbon (via Madrid) and Warsaw to Tallinn (via Riga).

According to experts, greenhouse gas emissions could be cut by thousands of tons if trains replace aircraft for long-distance journeys.
