Can Uber Snowmobile expand post-Olympics?

Since its launch as UberCab at the tail end of the 2000s, the startup that eventually grew into the ride-hailing app giant known as Uber has experimented with different ways to expand beyond its main offering.

Efforts to bring Uber Boat to different parts of the world that rely on ferry service date back to 2020, while cities in India(BHARAT) and South Korea have experimented with Uber Rickshaw to arrange rides on the light two-wheeled carts pulled or pedaled by another person.

Uber Transit is another option in which customers can plan trips and purchase tickets for public transportation networks in cities including New York, Chicago, San Diego, and São Paolo through the Uber app. A partnership with Lime has also allowed Uber to integrate electric scooter and bike rentals into its platform.

Uber Snowmobile option to be briefly available at Cortina for Olympic Games

While some of these services have taken off more than others, Uber is continuing its efforts to expand to other methods of transportation and promote its brand at major cultural and sporting events.

For the 2026 Winter Olympic Games currently taking place in Italy's Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Uber rolled out a limited Uber Snowmobile service taking guests from the sports venues in Cortina to various scenic viewpoints in the Dolomites along the 14-mile Three Peaks of Lavaredo trail.

The service launched on Feb. 7 and will operate on weekends throughout the month for the thousands of athletes and spectators who traveled to the northern Italian region for the Games.

The service is designed as a tourist experience more than transportation; guests book a snowmobile with room for up to two people with a shuttle to the starting point and a professional guide who leads a line of four snowmobiles between panoramic viewpoints.

Uber Ski, a specialized service for transporting guests with a lot of ski equipment in several resorts in France and Switzerland, has also expanded to Cortina for the duration of the Olympic Games.

Cortina d'Ampezzo is a ski resort located in Italy's Veneto region hosting the 2026 Olympic Games along with Milan.

Why Uber Snowmobile may not expand to other cities

"Winter sport is about far more than what happens at the finish line," Anabel Diaz, vice president for Uber's EMEA Mobility branch, said in a statement on the launch.

"With Uber Snowmobile, we're giving visitors the opportunity to experience the landscapes that make Cortina so special — from the forests and valleys beyond the slopes to the dramatic Dolomite peaks that surround them."

The offer taps into a unique sightseeing desire of many tourists coming to Cortina for the Olympic Games this year. Still, the snowmobile service is not one that is likely to expand to other destinations the way Uber Ski has, given the specific conditions of the mountain area's geography and seasonal demand driven, above all, by a specific event.

The rickshaw option rolled out through Uber Taxi in the South Korean city of Gyeongju in the fall of 2026 was a similar seasonal option for visitors who came for the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. The ride took passengers along a circular route between the city's most popular touristic attractions.
