More than 500 people in the district were duped of Rs 5 crore by promising to double their money in five years by getting them to invest in The Loni Urban Multi-State Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society. After investors failed to receive their money for a year, the agents filed a case against 22 accused, including the society’s brand ambassadors, actors Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath, at the Baghpat police station.

Complaint registered against actors Shreyas Talpade, Alok Nath, and 22 others

Babli, a resident of Meetli village, filed the case, stating that a young man from Bijraul village, who was associated with a self-help group and The Loni Urban Multi-State Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society, had been visiting her village. He identified himself as The Loni Urban Multi-State Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society, registered with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Cooperatives of the Government of India(BHARAT).

After speaking with company officials, Babli was made to deposit an FD of Rs 1.90 lakh from the Baghpat center into the Samalkha branch in Haryana. Subsequently, money from Anganwadi workers Sharmila and Suraj of Luhari village, along with other individuals, was also invested.

It was alleged that on November 27, 2024, the company shut down its transaction software. He visited the Samalkha office and spoke with company officials, but they did not provide a satisfactory response. During this time, he learned of fraud against other facility center operators and agents.

He said that the company, through more than 25 agents across the district, had collected investments from more than 500 people, totaling over five crore rupees. Upon discovering the fraud of five crore rupees, the Kotwali police registered a case against 22 accused and began an investigation.
