China on HIGH ALERT! Cyclone ‘Fengshen’ approaching at 80 km/h, meteorological department issues Blue alert, heavy rainfall likely in…

New Delhi: China has issued a blue alert for this year’s 24th typhoon, “Fengshen.” According to the reports, the storm has turned into a very intense form. Some parts of China’s southern regions are expected to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. As per the National Meteorological Center (NMC), as of 5 pm on Sunday, the typhoon was hovering over the western coast of the Philippine island of Luzon, with wind speeds near its center reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour.

Here are some of the key details:

  • “Fengshen” has been classified as a tropical storm
  • The storm has maximum sustained winds blowing at 23 meters per second. Its area of influence extends 220 to 280 kilometers from the center.
  • Experts predict that the storm will move northwestward at a speed of 20–25 kilometers per hour and may gradually intensify into a severe tropical storm or a full typhoon
  • According to the Meteorological Department, due to the influence of cold winds, the storm will turn southwest by Tuesday
  • The storm will head toward the central coast of Vietnam, where it is expected to weaken upon landfall.
  • A Yellow Alert has been issued in this regard. It is noteworthy that China’s four-tier color-coded warning system ranks Red as the most severe, followed by Orange, Yellow, and Blue.

Over the next three days, ‘Fengshen’ will bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to eastern and northern Taiwan, the coastal regions of Fujian and Guangdong provinces, Hainan Island, and the northern parts of the South China Sea.

It is important to note that the weather center has warned that from 8 am. Monday to 8 am. Tuesday, northern Taiwan will experience a spell of torrential rain, with some areas expected to record between 100 and 200 millimeters of precipitation.

During the same period, a cold wave will affect central and eastern China, causing temperatures in these areas — as well as parts of Guizhou and Yunnan provinces — to drop by 4–6°C, and in some places by as much as 8°C. The “0°C line” may also shift southward toward central-northern China.

The weather bureau further clarified that due to the combined effects of the cold wave and ‘Fengshen,’ winds reaching speeds of 28.4 meters per second, with gusts up to 36.9 meters per second, will blow over the southern East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, and the northern and central South China Sea between 8 a.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
