Cyclone Ditwah: Red and Orange alerts have been issued for north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and nearby south Andhra Pradesh coasts after cyclonic storm Ditwah moved towards the north-northwest – over coastal areas of Sri Lanka and the southwest Bay of Bengal. According to the India(BHARAT) Meteorological Department (IMD), Ditwah is likely to make landfall on November 30.

Cyclone Ditwah: What Did The IMD Say?

In its bulletin, the weather department stated that the cyclonic storm has strengthened further with powerful winds. It is expected that Ditwah is likely to enter the southwest Bay of Bengal near the north Tamil Nadu coasts, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh on November 30. Extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by speedy winds and thunderstorms is expected in the region, prompting advisories for people living in coastal belts.

The weather department stated that Ditwah is likely to stay on its north-northwest path before entering the Bay of Bengal.

Cyclone Ditwah: IMD Issued Red Alert

IMD has issued a Red Alert for – Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Pudukkottai in Tamil Nadu on Friday. On Saturday, districts like Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villuppuram, and Chengalpattu will be under the Red Alert. Puducherry and Karaikal will also be under the same alert.

Cyclone Ditwah: IMD Issued Orange Alert

The weather department has issued an Orange Alert for Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tiruchirappalli, Mayiladuthurai, Ariyalur districts, and Karaikal for ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall on Friday.

On Saturday, districts like – Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chennai will be under the same alert.

On Sunday, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Ranipet districts will be under the Orange Alert.

Cyclone Ditwah: Heavy Rainfall In Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal

On Friday, as per IMD, moderate rainfall is likely in South Tamil Nadu and parts of northern region, Puducherry and Karaikal. Extremely heavy rainfall is likely in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Pudukkottai. As per IMD, Heavy to very heavy showers are expected in Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tiruchirappalli, Mayiladuthurai, Ariyalur and Karaikal, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Perambalur, Cuddalore, and Puducherry.
