Cyclone Montha LIVE Updates: IMD issues red warning for Andhra Pradesh, schools closed, authorities on alert

New Delhi: Cyclone Montha developing over the ‘Bay of Bengal’ has now intensified into a severe storm. As per the India(BHARAT) Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression has turned into a cyclonic storm and may further strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours. At present, its maximum wind speed is around 90–100 km per hour, which could increase to 110 km per hour. A severe weather threat looms over Andhra Pradesh. IMD has issued red and orange alerts for 23 of the state’s 26 districts, warning of torrential rain, high-speed winds, and possible flooding. The system is moving toward the Andhra coastline, likely making landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, on October 28 evening. In Andhra Pradesh, the districts of Kakinada, Konaseema, Eluru, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, and SPSR Nellore are at higher risk. Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Ranipet may also be affected. The IMD has issued warnings of high sea waves and coastal flooding in marine areas.
