Earlier, IndiGo was fined a heavy amount of Rs. 22.2 crores by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) due to the massive flight cancellation issue in December 2025. Now, the centre has told the Delhi High Court that it has taken strict action against the aviation company. In addition, the centre stated that it has asked the airlines to dismiss the vice president. Not just the VP, but it has also warned six senior executives of the company of strict action. This comes after the massive chaos, which led to disruptions across major airports in the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, and many others. Now, the next hearing is to happen on February 25.

DGCA to Delhi High Court
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has informed the Delhi High Court that its committee of four members conducted an inquiry as to why the IndiGo crisis exactly happened. The body stated that the committee reached the conclusion that it happened because of “over-optimisation” of the operations, along with not enough preparedness.
The DGCA also said that a warning has been issued to the six senior-level executives of the company, which includes the COO (Chief Operating Officer). Alongside, it has ordered the company to dismiss its senior vice president.
DGCA imposes a penalty on IndiGo
Earlier, on January 17, the DGCA had announced a penalty of Rs. 22.2 crores on the company due to the flight cancellations. It added that continuous flight disruptions led to the cancellation of more than 2,500 flights and the delay of over 1,850 flights from December 3 to December 5, 2025. The official notification read that over 300,000 passengers were affected due to the airlines. As a result, it imposed a fine of Rs. 22.2 crores distributed in 2 main categories: Rs. 1.80 crore for one-time systemic penalties and Rs. 20.40 crore for continued non-compliance policy.

IndiGo’s massive flight cancellations in the month of December last year are one of the major failures by any airline in history. The brutal chaos impacted the lives and travels of many people. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), more than 300,000 passengers were affected. Thousands of individuals shared their experience of being left stranded at the airports across Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bangalore, and many other cities.
