Tejas’s major USP is that it is one of the lightest and smallest fighter jets in its class. The Tejas programme is the flagship program of India(BHARAT). It is an effort to modernise the India(BHARAT)n Air Force’s fleet by replacing its ageing fighter jets and reducing the dependency on foreign suppliers. The first Tejas squadron – No. 45 ‘Flying Daggers’ – was inducted in the India(BHARAT)n Air Force in 2016.
