Delhi Pollution: Residents of Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) continue to breathe hazardous air as the air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ category. The capital city is facing a double attack as the dense fog reduced the visibility to near zero. The dense fog that enveloped most parts of North India(BHARAT) has increased chances of road mishaps. The overall AQI of the capital city stood at 385 as of 6 am. Yesterday, December 29, the overall 24-hour average AQI stood at 401, plunging to the ‘severe’ category.

Delhi Air Quality

Despite a slight improvement, the pollution levels remained alarmingly high in most parts of the region. Several air quality monitoring stations set up across Delhi recorded AQI in the “severe” category, with AQI levels crossing the 400 mark.

Dense Fog Warning

According to the India(BHARAT) Meteorological Department (IMD), dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to persist during night and early morning hours in north indian states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh till December 31, in Himachal Pradesh till December 30.

Light to moderate fog is likely over the Jammu division till December 30, Sub-Himalayan and West Bengal till December 31. Fog conditions will prevail in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Odisha till January 1.

Delhi Weather Forecast

The capital city has been placed on red alert for dense fog, as visibility levels have dropped to near zero. Commuters are facing problems due to the reduced visibility. IMD stated that dense to very dense fog is expected to prevail during the night and early morning in Delhi-NCR. Rain is also possible on January 1st. The International Meteorological Department has issued an alert for severe cold and fog in Delhi-NCR before the New Year.

Temperatures are expected to hover between a maximum of 23 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 8 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels would be around 98 to 100 percent.

Air quality is most likely to remain in the poor category. The elderly and those with respiratory conditions are requested to stay indoors and should take necessary precautions.

Mumbai Weather

Residents of Mumbai woke up to ‘poor’ air quality on Tuesday. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 157 in the morning, raising health concerns for people suffering from respiratory diseases. As per IMD, clear skies are expected with warm winter days.

The sun set timing are – 6:10 pm today, while on Wednesday the sunrise will happen around 7:11 am.

Cold Wave Alert

The weather department stated that cold wave conditions are very likely to continue at isolated places in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, north Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.

Snow And Rain

As per IMD, due to a fresh western disturbance which is expected to hit the Western Himalayan region from today, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall is expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining areas.
