Delhi Pollution: AQI above 400, air is almost poison, flights, trains delayed due to dense smog

Pollution levels in Delhi-NCR are steadily rising, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeding 400 in many areas. According to experts, the situation could worsen if appropriate measures are not taken soon.

Weather WARNING: Residents of Delhi and adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) on Tuesday woke up to a smoggy and chilly morning. The India(BHARAT)n Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that dense to very dense fog conditions are expected in northern and eastern India(BHARAT), due to which visibility is likely to be affected during the night and early morning hours. The weather department, in its bulletin (dated December 21), has also highlighted widespread fog over the Indo-Gangetic plains and cold wave conditions in northern, central, eastern and southern parts of India(BHARAT).

Dense Fog Alert

The IMD has predicted that dense fog conditions are likely to affect transport operations, and visibility conditions on roads and highways during night and early morning hours. It has requested the state authorities to remain alert to rapidly changing weather conditions.

Will It Rain In Delhi?

An active western disturbance has influenced the Western Himalayan region, resulting in light to moderate rainfall and snowfall over the region today, December 23. Rainfall activity is also expected over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the same period. Notably, there is no chance of rain in the national capital.

IMD also suggested that scattered rainfall or snowfall may continue over the Western Himalayan region during December 24 to 26.

Cold To Further Intensify In North India(BHARAT)

It is to be noted that a fall of 3–5 degrees Celsius is likely between December 23 and 25. However, Uttar Pradesh has different weather conditions, with minimum temperatures gradually rising by 2–3 degrees Celsius.

Maharashtra Weather

The state is expected to witness a gradual rise of 2–3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures. In Gujarat, a gradual fall of 2–3 degrees Celsius during December 23–25 is expected.

Cold Wave And Cold Day Conditions

The IMD report also warns of cold wave conditions. North interior Karnataka and parts of Telangana are expected to experience cold wave conditions today.

Cold day conditions are expected to persist over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.
