Denmark wants to ban social media for children under 15

Denmark is taking aim at social media - and it could mean a total ban for kids under 15.

Denmark’s Prime Minister says her government will propose new rules blocking kids under 15 from using social platforms - unless parents give the green light starting at 13.

She says social media is “stealing our children’s childhood,” blaming it for rising anxiety, depression, and attention problems.

She pointed to one striking stat: 60% of Danish boys aged 11 to 19 don’t see a single friend in person during the week - and asked if that number would be so high without smartphones.

The plan follows Denmark’s move to ban phones in primary schools - and it’s part of a growing global push to protect kids online.

Norway is weighing a similar under-15 ban, and Australia already passed one last year for anyone under 16, with hefty fines for tech companies that don’t comply.
