Dollar Tree store hours for New Year's Day 2026

New Year’s Day is often the most chill of all the major holidays. Most people have returned from their December travels and are slowly easing their way back into the post-holiday routine.

It's a day for watching all the sports, from NBA, NHL, and NFL to college football bowl games. If there is a food plan, it probably revolves around chips and dips, adult beverages, and soda/pop.

If you find yourself low on supplies, Dollar Tree might be a place you'd run to, to pick up a few essentials, including New Year's Eve party supplies.

With more than 9,000 locations — many of which are in rural or underserved areas — Dollar Tree is often the closest place for groceries and household essentials across 48 states.

But like on Christmas Day, when Dollar Tree closes all of its U.S. stores, the discount retailer will be closed on Jan. 1.

Dollar Tree is closed on New Year’s Day

Dollar Tree leadership has opted to close on New Year's Day, giving its employees a day to spend with friends and family after a busy holiday season.

As for New Year's Eve, my local Dollar Tree will be open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Since the company allows some flexibility at the store level, customers are advised to check the company’s store locator for exact opening and closing times.

Dollar Tree’s most recent earnings report

Dollar Tree stores, like other “dollar” stores, have been a bright spot in a somewhat bleak retail environment. Dollar Tree’s year-over-year visits climbed from -0.1% in September to 2.8% in October, per Placer.ai's most recently shared retail location data.

During Dollar Tree's most recent earnings call on December 3, 2025, CEO Mike Creedon shared the following financial updates:

  • $4.7 billion in third‑quarter net sales, up about 9.4% year over year.
  • 4.2% increase in same‑store sales.
  • $244.6 million in net income for the period (income from continuing operations), an increase from the prior year.
  • $1.20: diluted earnings per share, an 11.1% rise compared to the same quarter in 2024.

Like its competitor Dollar General, Dollar Tree is gaining ground with households earning more than $100,000 a year.

"Growing trip frequency among these higher income customers, given their propensity to build bigger baskets, will be a powerful growth driver for Dollar Tree over time," CEO Creedon said on the December earnings call.

Dollar Tree has faced recent legal challenges

Not everything has been rosy for Dollar Tree stores recently, however.

Like other stores in the ultra-discount category, Dollar Tree has faced charges from the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), which cited one of the nation's largest discount retail chains for allowing hazardous conditions at its stores.

In a 2023 settlement with OSHA, Dollar Tree ultimately agreed to pay approximately $1.35 million in penalties, agreed to undergo open inspections, and said it would maintain a 24-hour hotline to receive safety complaints.

And in 2025, in a recent U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission 10-K filing, Dollar Tree disclosed labor and workforce risks, including:

  • Challenges in attracting, developing, training, and retaining qualified associates at stores and distribution centers
  • Exposure to turnover, competitive labor markets, and wage pressures, which could negatively impact operations
  • Risks that changes in employment/labor laws, labor activism, or attempts by a significant portion of employees to unionize could increase labor-related costs
