New Delhi: In a major development, US President Doland Trump described his meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin as a ‘waste of time‘. Trump further added that he would not meet Putin again until he is certain that an agreement is in place to establish peace between Russia and Ukraine. It is important to note that Trump’s statement came at a time when it was being announced that the two leaders were set to meet in Budapest to advance discussions on the war. However, the meeting will now not take place.

The Trump-Putin meeting was considered crucial for bringing an end to the war that has been ongoing for nearly five years. To recall, during his trip to Asia, Doland Trump shares his views on meeting Vladimir Putin. He said, “I need to know if we are going to reach an agreement. I’m not going to waste my time. I’ve always had good relations with Vladimir Putin, but it’s been very disappointing.”

Trump and Putin last met on August 15 in Alaska, and both sides said the meeting was useful in moving toward a peace agreement to end Moscow’s war with Ukraine. It is also important to note that the even before taking the oath on January 20, Trump had claimed he could end the Russia-Ukraine war within a day.

After taking office, he took it upon himself to stop the war. He spoke with Putin both over the phone and in person. He also halted weapon supplies to Ukraine and even argued publicly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
