DON’T USE SIM cards more than…: In today’s world, most of the people use two phones or a smartphone that has two SIM card slots. Several people use more than two SIM cards, which they use for personal and official works. This is possible because of the cheap prepaid plans in India(BHARAT). But most of the people don’t know that there is a law related to SIM cards, which prohibits people from using more of these cards or numbers. It also has a hefty fine of Rs 2 lakh, or an individual can even face a jail sentence.

What Is The Guidelines Of Telecom Regulation?

According to telecom regulations, an individual can use a limited number of SIM cards in his name. To monitor this regulation, the IT Ministry has launched a portal called ‘Sanchar Saathi.’ If an individual wants to find out how many SIM cards are in his name, he can simply visit the website and enter the required details.

How Many SIM Cards Can An Individual Use On His Name?

An individual can have a maximum of nine SIM cards registered in their name. Notably, this limit is reduced to six for Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and the northeastern states. The Telecommunications Act, 2023  has maintained these restrictions.

If any individual exceeds the given limit, he can face a fine of up to Rs 50,000 for the first violation. The fine can be increased to Rs 2 lakh for a second violation.

What Happens If Someone Obtains A SIM Card Using Someone Else’s Identity?

In such cases, the person can face three years in prison, a fine of up to 5 million rupees, or both.

  • Enter your mobile number and captcha
  • Log in using the OTP received
  • View all active mobile numbers linked to your ID
  • Click “Not My Number” to report an unknown number
  • Select “Not Required” to deactivate an old or unused number
