The Election Commission has announced pan-India Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters’ list in 12 states and union territories. Check the full list of documents.
SIR documents details: In a significant development ahead of elections in multiple states of India(BHARAT), Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced the Election Commission’s pan-India(BHARAT) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters’ list in 12 states and union territories. In the recently concluded press conference held in New Delhi, the CEC has said that it is essential to clean the electoral rolls after every few years because of reasons like voter duplication, removal of names of those who have either passed away or have permanently shifted out of the poll-bound state.
What CEC Gyanesh Kumar said on SIR requirement?
“After BLOs start distributing forms to existing electors, all those whose names are on Enumeration Forms will try to match whether their names were on the 2003 voters’ list. If yes, they need not submit any additional documents,” CEC Kumar said.
“If their names are not there, but the names of their parents were on the list, then too they need not submit any additional documents…The voter list of the SIR from 2002 to 2004 will be available on http://voters.eci.gov.in by anyone and they can do the matching by themselves,” Kumar added.
Hinting at a pan-India(BHARAT) SIR rollout, he said that it was first undertaken in Bihar and will soon be rolled out in other states.
