Elon Musk Has Thoughts on Meta's New Paid Subscription Model

The Twitter king kept his tongue firmly in cheek after Meta's announcement.

If Elon Musk is known for any one thing beyond Tesla  (TSLA) - Get Free Report and Twitter  (TWTR) - Get Free Report, it's his propensity to jump into the comments of just about any discourse that he feels is worthwhile.

In this case, that topic is Meta's Feb. 19 announcement that it will now offer a subscription service called Meta Verified that grants members the coveted blue badge once they verify their identity with a government-issued ID, as well as what Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg calls "direct access to customer support."

Musk made his appearance in the comments of a post made by news website DiscloseTV on Feb 19, keeping his sentiments short but sweet.

Musk rolled out a similar service for Twitter after buying the platform in Oct. 2022, taking the preexisting Twitter Blue service and locking the blue verified checkmark behind a monthly charge of $7.99 for web users and $11.99 for iPhone users.

The Twitter CEO did not go on to say anything about how Meta's new service is suspiciously familiar. But while Musk's strategy with Blue was criticized by many when first announced, this time around it seemed like more folks in the comments were on his side -- and as always, quick to respond with handmade memes.
