'Even Amitabh Bachchan doesn’t ask for a script,' when Manmohan Desai got angry with Kamal Haasan

Kamal Haasan is known as the universal hero of Indian cinema. He started acting at the age of three and carries an experience of more than 60 years. In a throwback interview that has now gone viral, the actor spoke about working with filmmakers from the North and one particular anecdote about the veteran Manmohan Desai.

Haasan said, ‘They were kind and still are. Some were good ones. Manmohan Desai saab was very upset when I insisted on seeing a script. I think it was for a film called Allah Rakha. I could only apologise because I didn’t mean any insult, no disrespect. Then he said even Mr Amitabh Bachchan doesn’t ask for a script. My answer was that ‘He can afford to not ask for it.’

He added, “Some of the people who came along with him on that day are still my friends; we still joke about the meeting. I was so excited about him coming that I didn’t even offer him tea. ‘So this guy first didn’t offer me tea and then he asks for a script’. So many things went against me. I must have missed a lot of opportunities.”

Haasan on 12th Fail movie

Haasan watched the much-awaited 12th Fail in Chennai, and after watching the film, he couldn’t stop raving about the film and the subject that filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra has presented. Expressing his love and praises towards 12th Fail, Kamal Haasan said, “I am very happy that I saw the film, and most of them who saw the film, I spoke to have only one thing to say: ‘It’s been a long time since we saw a good film like this’, and I second that motion. Thank you, Vinod Chopra, for making a film like this; it brings back hope in filmmakers like me to confidently go ahead and do what you love the most.”
