EXCLUSIVE! Paramvir Singh Cheema on Sapne v/s Everyone success: ‘Was worried it would be compared with 12th Fail but...’

Paramvir Singh Cheema is basking in the glory of Sapne vs Everyone that has become the highest-rated series on IMDb as off now. He was also seen in critically acclaimed shows like Tabbar and Chamak. And in an exclusive interview with Firstpost, the actor spilled the beans on all.

Edited excerpts from the interview

What are the responses you’ve received for Sapne vs Everyone so far?

Only our director was confident this would be the best show in India and in the world. Everywhere I go, people recognize me as the character I’ve played and get emotional just by seeing me. The audience of TVF is so loyal and they have such a huge fan base.

How did you prepare for the character that you played in the show?

It was relatable to me firstly. I came to Mumbai from Jalandhar and my father was holding me back to do LLB, my character Prashanth faced the same conflict. I knew a lot of directors and creators would watch the show and that was a big pressure on me because even one nuance would put them off. I wanted the character to be an introvert but my director asked me to discuss it with him first. He auditioned a lot of actors for this role but I think he liked mine a lot. I’ve done theatre ever since I came to Mumbai and that was a plus point. My character Prashanth stays in his own bubble and is unable to express his feelings.

How does it feel it has become the highest rated show on IMDb?

I didn’t expect the show would blow up since so many shows were coming out and 12th Fail was out too which was again a motivational film, and people start making comparisons. I spoke about this with my director but he assured me we were making a good show; and when I saw the edit, I realized this was shot so well. But I never knew this would be so big.

Your show Chamak essays the concept of Dunki little before the film of the same name. How was your experience of that series?

Chamak has been a totally different journey. This is a show about a rapper in Canada who lands up in India due to some circumstances and that too illegally, so it’s like reverse dunki, as mentioned in the show. People actually came to know it was me after they reached the third episode. The second part is coming around March, and people are excited. Chamak is one of the most successful shows commercially for Sony after Scam 1992.
