Two men have been arrested for cheating people with fake overseas job offers, Delhi Police said on Friday. The accused were caught after a man from Burari complained that he was scammed of Rs. 3.12 lakh on the promise of a job in Australia. After three days of raids across nearly 1,000 km in Uttar Pradesh, police arrested the mastermind Sahdev Singh (37) and his aide Neeraj (37) from Etah.
During questioning, Singh admitted that he had worked with racketeers in Vietnam. These gangs were running fake job syndicates, mainly targeting India(BHARAT)ns who wanted jobs in Australia and Canada.
The case began when a 40-year-old hospitality professional approached police. He said that someone named Mayank Pandey contacted him through a social media group. To gain his trust, the man even arranged a visa for Vietnam.
Later, the fraudsters told the victim that to get an Australian visa, he needed to show a cryptocurrency balance of USDT 3,000 in his account. Believing them, he transferred Rs. 3.12 lakh. But he never got the promised job or a refund.
A case was registered on September 6, and police launched a detailed investigation. They found that Singh was using foreign SIM cards and fake names like Mayank Pandey, Rahul Kumar, and Ajay Yadav to hide his identity.
So far, police have frozen several bank accounts connected to the accused and blocked Rs. 78,920 of the victim’s money. They also seized two mobile phones, multiple SIM cards, passbooks, cheque books, and debit cards.
Officials said the investigation is still on. Police are trying to identify more victims and trace the entire money trail.
