Glenn Maxwell: All major records as Aussie all-rounder makes historic double century

Glenn Maxwell’s incredible knock of 201 not out not only helped Australia beat Afghanistan and reach the 2023 Cricket World Cup semi-finals, but it also helped the Aussie all-rounder etch his name in history books. Maxwell’s miraculous rescue act helped Australia successfully chase down the 292-run target after they were reduced to 91/7.

The other star of the rescue act was captain Pat Cummins who scored 12 not out 68 balls and forged an uneated 202-run stand for the eighth wicket with Maxwell.

We take a look at the records made and broken during the Australia vs Afghanistan match:

— Maxwell is the first batter to score a double century during a chase in ODIs. Fakhar Zaman’s 193 against South Africa in 2021 was the previous highest

— Maxwell is also the first Australian to hit a double ton in ODIs. Shane Watson’s 185 not out against Bangladesh in 211 was the previous highest

— He is the third batter to score a double ton in men’s ODI world Cups after Chris Gayel (219 vs Zimbabwe, 2015) and Martin Guptill (237* vs West Indies, 2015)

— Maxwell’s double century came from the No. 6 spot. He is the first batter to score a double ton while batting at No 3 or lower position in ODIs

— 202 run partnership between Maxwell and Cummins is the highest for seventh wicket or lower in men’s ODIs

— Australia chased down a total of 292 to beat Afghanistan which is their highest chase in men’s ODI World Cups
