Goa nightclub fire: In more trouble for Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, the owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub where 25 people were charred to death in a devastating fire on December 6, a court in Goa Monday extended their police custody by five more days, till December 27.
Advocate Vishnu Joshi, who representing the families of victims, told the media that the court has extended the police custody of Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra by five days, while Ajay Gupta, another owner of the ill-fated club, has been remanded to judicial custody, as the police did not seek extension of his custody.
What are the charges against Luthra brothers?
Brothers Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, the co-owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, had fled to Phuket in Thailand shortly after the fire incident. The siblings were detained in the country following an Interpol Blue Corner Notice against them, and were deported back to India(BHARAT) on December 17.
The Anjuna police has registered a case against the Luthra brothers for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and other offences.
Goa nightclub fire tragedy
A massive fire ripped through the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub at Arpora in North Goa in the early hours of December 6, leaving 25 people dead, including 20 staffers and five tourists.
Eight persons have been arrested so far, while police have initiated the process for issuance of a Blue Corner Notice against British national Surinder Kumar Khosla, an accused who has fled to the United Kingdom.
Goa launches crackdown against nightclubs
Meanwhile, following the December 6 inferno, authorities in Goa have launched a massive crackdown against nightclubs who violate safety norms, leading to the closure of at least two famous clubs earlier this month.
According to officials, Cafe CO2 Goa and Goya Club, two prominent nightclubs at the famous Vagator beach in North Goa, have been sealed by authorities for violating fire safety norms and other violations, including illegal construction.
