Mumbai: Good news for the passengers travelling on local trains in Mumbai! The India(BHARAT)n Railways is reportedly carrying out several works to increase the services of local and express trains. According to the reports, the Central and Western Railway is currently working towards expanding new terminals, constructing additional platforms, arranging new pit lines, developing holding and stabling lines, improving shunting arrangements, developing maintenance infrastructure including mega coaching complexes, and carrying out signalling, traffic facility works and multi-tracking projects.

According to reports, currently 44 long-distance trains operate from Mumbai on Western Railway, and there is a plan to increase this number to 65. In addition, around 70 coaches will be added daily to existing trains, meaning each train will get 1 to 2 additional coaches.

Here are some of the key details:

  • Central Railway says that it currently operates 82 long-distance trains from Mumbai.
  • In the coming time, 30 primary maintenance trains and 38 return trains will be added.
  • The authorities are also planning to increase in suburban services.
  • Currently, the Central Railway (CR) runs 1,820 services and Western Railway (WR) runs 1,406 services. CR has 3 car sheds and WR also has 3 car sheds.
  • Western Railway has planned to run 165 additional suburban services by 2030, while Central Railway has planned to add 584 services.
  • According to this, a total of 749 additional services are planned over the next five years.

Special services on the Harbour Line

It is important to note that the down Harbour Line services departing from CSMT to Vashi/Belapur/Panvel between 11:16 a.m. and 4:47 p.m. on Sunday, and services departing from CSMT to Bandra/Goregaon between 10:48 a.m. and 4:43 p.m., will remain suspended.

Similarly, Up Harbour Line services from Panvel/Belapur/Vashi to CSMT between 9:53 a.m. and 3:20 p.m., and from Goregaon/Bandra to CSMT between 10:45 a.m. and 5:13 p.m., will also remain suspended.

During this period, special services will run between Panvel and Kurla every 20 minutes.
