Hamas recaptures Gaza as Israeli forces withdraw; What will Trump do now?
Trump's Gaza Peace Deal is in jeopardy after Hamas's takeover of Gaza.
New Delhi: Hamas has recaptured Gaza as Israeli forces withdrew. Hamas fighters are patrolling throughout Gaza and killing Israeli supporters. Meanwhile, Gaza residents have reported that Hamas is making decisions, from controlling chicken prices to imposing taxes on cigarettes. However, these latest decisions by Hamas have raised concerns about whether it will withdraw from US President Doland Trump’s Gaza peace deal.
Preparations to expel Hamas from Gaza
A ceasefire began in Gaza last month. Since then, Hamas has rapidly re-established control over areas from which Israel had withdrawn. Hamas has killed dozens of Palestinians, accusing them of supporting Israel. Israel and several Western countries, including the United States, are demanding that Hamas surrender its arms and remove itself from power in Gaza. Still, no agreement has yet been reached on who will replace it.
Hamas’s complete control of Gaza
Gazetteers now say they are experiencing Hamas’s control in other ways as well. Authorities are monitoring everything that enters Hamas-occupied areas of Gaza. They said Hamas officials are imposing taxes on some privately imported goods, including fuel and cigarettes, and fining merchants who overcharge. Ismail al-Thawbta, head of the Hamas government’s media office, said that Hamas’s figures for cigarette and fuel taxes are inaccurate. He denied that the government is increasing any taxes.
Trump’s Gaza Peace Deal in danger
US President Doland Trump’s Gaza Peace Deal is in jeopardy after Hamas’s takeover of Gaza. Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan called for the expulsion and disarmament of Hamas. But the current situation is the opposite. Israel has also warned that if Hamas regains power in Gaza and attempts an attack, it will resume military operations. In this scenario, Trump’s Gaza peace deal could collapse and lead to another Israel-Hamas war.
