Russian warships in India’s neighbourhood, to conduct exercises with this hostile country’s navy in Andaman Sea

New Delhi: The Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet is currently on a visit to Myanmar, in India(BHARAT)’s neighbourhood. The warships on this visit include the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, the corvette Gremyashchiy, and the tanker Boris Butoma. These three warships are conducting exercises with the Bangladeshi Navy in the Andaman Sea. This exercise, dubbed MARUMEX 2025, is taking place while Myanmar is grappling with civil war. The selection of the Andaman Sea for this exercise is also a matter of concern, as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are home to India(BHARAT)’s Integrated Tri-Service Command, which includes the headquarters of the India(BHARAT)n Army, India(BHARAT)n Navy, and India(BHARAT)n Air Force.

Warships to search for submarines

According to news.az, the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet stated that the opening ceremony for the joint exercises between the two navies was held at Thilawa Port on Wednesday. The statement stated that naval forces from both countries will practice naval control during the joint exercises. The warships participating in the exercises will search for and track conventional enemy submarines and carry out missions using artillery and torpedoes.

Operations against piracy

In addition, anti-terrorism groups from both countries will participate in inspections and will also conduct drills to free a ship from the clutches of “pirates.” The Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet stated that the main objective of the exercise is to comprehensively develop and strengthen cooperation between the navies and to practice ensuring the safety of civilian ships and maritime economic activities in the Southeast Asian maritime region.

Myanmar warship participates

The Russian Navy reported that the Myanmar Navy sent the UMS (Union of Myanmar Ship) Moattama, a landing platform dock, the frigate Kyansittha, the corvette Tabinshwehti, and the submarine Minye Theinkhathu for the joint exercise. Myanmar’s navy is relatively small and weak, but it guards a vital area of the Andaman Sea. China also has its sights set on this area, and it is steadily increasing its presence in the region.
