Haryana HORROR: Panipat ‘psycho killer’ murders 3 girls over 2 years because she was jealous of…, also drowned her son to cover crime
All four victims were young children, her own son and three girls from her extended family. Poonam is now in judicial custody, and police are still investigating the case.
A shocking case of serial killings has come to light in Panipat, Haryana. Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman who is accused of drowning four children over the last two years, including her own three-year-old son. Officers say she committed the crimes because she was extremely jealous of the children’s looks. Panipat Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh said the woman, identified as Poonam, targeted children within her close and extended family between 2023 and 2025. “The accused seems to have a disturbed mind. She told us she didn’t want any child in her family to look more beautiful than her,” Singh said. “Jo sundar bachhiye hain unse inko nafrat si hai (She harboured hate for beautiful girls),” the SP revealed.
The three murders
The first case took place in 2023 in Bhawar village in Sonipat, where Poonam allegedly drowned her sister-in-law’s nine-year-old daughter. To avoid suspicion, she also killed her own son so the deaths would seem like accidents. In August 2025, she used the same method to kill her cousin’s six-year-old daughter in Sewah village.
Everything came to light on December 1, 2025, after her niece Vidhi, aged six, died during a wedding in Naulakha village, Panipat. Police found the child in a small water tub that had been locked from the outside, making an accident very unlikely. CCTV footage showed Poonam near the area.
When questioned, Poonam confessed to all four murders. Police said she is well-educated, with an MA in Political Science, but showed behaviour consistent with serious psychological issues. According to sources, she carefully planned each killing and acted calm afterward, even behaving normally around others.
At the wedding where Vidhi died, people noticed Poonam staying silent and away from the celebrations. Police believe this behaviour hid her intentions.
In each case, Poonam reportedly used the trust of family members to take the children away from others. On the night of Vidhi’s death, she is said to have taken the girl under the pretext of a sleepover and then drowned her. She later gave false explanations when relatives questioned her about Vidhi’s wet clothes.
All four victims were young children — her own son and three girls from her extended family. Poonam is now in judicial custody, and police are still investigating the case.
SP Bhupender Singh said the accused told officers she feared the girls would grow up to be more beautiful than her.
