‘You have weapons in your kitchen…:’ Mamata Banerjee makes provocative statement amid SIR in Bengal
CM Mamata Banerjee said that we have a Union Home Minister who can do anything to declare all Bengalis as Bangladeshis and send them to detention centres.
Mamata Banerjee on SIR: Politics has heated up in West Bengal over the SIR . Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged women in the state to be prepared with kitchen supplies in case their names are removed during the voter list review . The West Bengal Chief Minister alleged that the Election Commission is sending pro-BJP officials from Delhi to monitor the work of District Magistrates during the SIR .
Speaking at a rally in Krishnanagar , Bengal, he said, “If during the elections, police are called from Delhi to intimidate mothers and sisters, if your names are removed from the voter list , then you should not tolerate it. You have weapons in your kitchen. Women will come forward and fight and men will stand behind them.”
‘BJP tries to distribute money during elections’
She said, “I want to see who is more powerful : women or the BJP. I don’t believe in communalism . I believe in secularism . Whenever elections come, the BJP tries to divide the people by using money and bringing in people from other states . ”
She said, “We all recite the Gita at home when needed. Then why organize a public gathering? God resides in the heart; those who pray to Allah do so within their hearts. During Ramadan and Durga Puja, we all pray together. I want to ask those who are making noise about the Gita what Lord Krishna said. Religion means purity, humanity, and peace, not violence, discrimination, and division.”
‘We won’t allow Bengalis to be driven out of West Bengal’
Pointing to the BJP, she said, “Do I now need to prove my citizenship to the party of rioters ?” Accusing the central government of targeting Bengalis, Banerjee said, “We have a Union Home Minister who will do anything to label all Bengalis as Bangladeshis and send them to detention centers , but we will not allow anyone to be expelled from West Bengal. If someone is forcibly expelled, we know how to bring them back.”
