How Rashmika Mandanna's fake viral video shows Artificial Intelligence's growing menace and invasion

Very recently, we saw actress Rashmika Mandanna in a black and bold outfit, entering in a lift and interacting with her fans in a video. It turned out to be a fake one that was exposed by a journalist, and Mandanna shared a long note on her social media account to express her horror and anger. Even her Goodbye co-star Amitabh Bachchan called for strict legal action against the perpetrators.

Artificial Intelligence– Boon or Bane?

With this unfortunate and unfair incident, the growing reliance on the AI technology has turned out to be more of a bane than a boon. Mandanna literally had to write these words- “Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.”

You all must have seen the AI generated pictures of Bollywood and Hollywood stars on social media for fun. But this incident suggests that fun can be dangerous and disastrous at times. There’s another major example of how AI has rendered people helpless and in horror- The Hollywood Strike.

AI in filmmaking

Artificial Intelligence has sent shockwaves through creative sectors. The capacity to generate plausible, complex written content has made scriptwriters question if their abilities will one day be obsolete.

AI has also begun to demonstrate astounding powers in creating images and video, forcing people to imagine what if it completely replaces the need for real filmmaking.

When the writers in Hollywood went on strike, one of the reasons was the growing dependence on AI apart from equal pay and multiple issues and demands.

Now, there is a fear from the coming torrent of AI tools that will mean just about anyone could recreate a person’s likeness and have them appear to engage in performances or acts without their consent.

Javed Akhtar on the technology

“AI is a strange challenge for creative people, because now you have a computer that can create. But it can’t be as creative as a human being, because human beings don’t think in binary. There is a fuzzy area which computers are yet to develop,” said the veteran writer and lyricist at the Bengaluru Poetry Festival.
