Starts off with a dot before the southpaw collects the first run of the day in the second delivery with a single, steering the ball behind square on the off side. Root follows suit two deliveries later, getting an inside edge off an inswinging delivery that he ends up directing behind square leg.

Before withdrawing from the Rajkot Test, Ashwin completed his 500th Test wicket with the dismissal of Zak Crawley on Friday. He is the second Indian after Anil Kumble (619) to do so and the ninth bowler overall. Ashwin is also the second fastest to reach 500 Test wickets in terms of matches played and ball bowled.

“Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the Test squad, effective immediately due to a family medical emergency. In these challenging times, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team fully supports Ashwin,” BCCI said in a statement.
