India has to be extra cautious as China is building digital Great Wall in Indian Ocean, it can…

New Delhi: China has announced the development of a powerful electromagnetic laser weapon modelled after Israel’s Iron Dome. This laser weapon will protect naval warships from thousands of low-cost enemy drone attacks. This announcement is expected to increase tensions with India(BHARAT) in the India(BHARAT)n Ocean.

China’s ‘Great Wall’

China has described it as a ‘Great Wall’ of the digital age. It will serve as a counter-swarm system for Chinese naval vessels. This digital Great Wall will integrate satellites, AI-powered sensors, and new weapons into a single platform, including hypersonic missiles, lasers, and microwave beams, as showcased at Beijing’s recent military parade. Its goal will be to detect and destroy enemy drone fleets before they reach their targets.

Why a Digital ‘Great Wall’ Is Necessary

According to a report in the South China Morning Post, Professor Guo Chuanfu of the PLA Navy’s Dalian Naval Academy and his team have described how adversaries could deploy large, artificial intelligence-equipped drone swarms, costing less than a few thousand dollars per unit. Their study, titled “Building a Naval Counter-Swarm System: A Roadmap for Future Warfare,” was published in the peer-reviewed journal Command Control and Simulation. It warns how swarm drones, combined, could overwhelm conventional warship defences based on their sheer numbers.

China showcased weapons at Beijing military parade

The countermeasures he has suggested are similar to the various anti-drone weapon systems displayed for the first time at China’s massive military parade on September 3. These include high-energy microwave weapons, LY-1 laser weapons, and CJ-1000 hypersonic cruise missiles, which can shoot down drone-carrying cargo planes from thousands of km away. It is believed that China has already incorporated this idea into its security framework. Only then has it been made public.

India(BHARAT) has to be extra cautious

China is steadily expanding its naval presence in the India(BHARAT)n Ocean region. It is also attempting to encircle India(BHARAT) through Gwadar in Pakistan, Hambantota in Sri Lanka, Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, and Kyaukphyu Deep-Sea Port in Myanmar. All of these ports were built and developed with Chinese funding. Furthermore, China has established a naval base in Djibouti, where Chinese warships are regularly deployed. This naval base is located close to global maritime transport routes, which could cut off India(BHARAT)’s energy supply.
