Islamic school building falls in Indonesia, more than 60 students feared buried

Indonesia: The building of an Islamic School in Indonesia’s Sidojaro collapsed on Monday. It’s presumed that around 65 students are still buried under the concrete rubble of the building.
It was reported on Tuesday morning, 12 hours after the casualty, that one student had allegedly died in the serious mishap.

The incident occurred at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in the East Java town of Sidoarjo. Rescue teams ran an oxygen and water supply to support the lives of individuals still buried under the concrete debris of the building. It is presumed that the death toll is most likely to increase. The families and guardians of victims moved to the nearby hospital, anticipating their children’s whereabouts.

How many casualties are reported so far?

The rescue team on Tuesday morning mentioned that one individual had passed away in the accident. Alongside, a notice board was set up at the command post of the school facility, which stated that around 65 students were still missing. These missing individuals are mostly boys between the ages of 12 and 17, studying between grades seven and eleven. The rescue teams have said that the death toll is most likely to increase today. 

What are the rescuers saying?

The rescue team officials are explaining the state of the accident. One of the officers, Nanang Singh, had said that heavy concrete slabs, rubble, and unstable parts of the school building restricted the search operations. 

Another officer, Sigit, added that the focus of rescuers is to save the lives of people who are still buried under the concrete debris.

The casualty of the school building collapse in Indonesia occurred when the boys were involved in the afternoon prayers in a building that was under unauthorized expansion. The female students were performimg prayers in the other part, as a result of which, they were able to escape.
